Why I built it

I was tired of calorie apps that lock AI photo estimates behind a monthly subscription or clutter the experience. I wanted something straightforward and free, so I built MacroKeep for myself—and kept it simple enough to share.

What you can do

  • Daily macro diary Log meals and see today's protein, carbs, and fat against your targets.
  • AI from photos or text Optional Gemini key in your settings—requests go to Google's free tier by default, not a MacroKeep paywall.
  • Manual logging Enter macros yourself anytime—no AI required.
  • History & progress Past days, charts, saved meals, and progress photos.

How it works

  1. Sign in with Google.
  2. Your food log lives in a private Google Drive app folder—not on MacroKeep servers, and not mixed into My Drive.
  3. Use the web app on phone or desktop, or add it to your home screen as a PWA.

FAQ

Is MacroKeep free?
The app is free to use. Optional AI meal estimates use your own Google Gemini API key—not MacroKeep. Google provides a free tier with rate limits for typical personal use; you only pay Google if you enable billing on that key's project in Google AI Studio.
Why a Gemini API key?
So photo and description scanning doesn't require a MacroKeep subscription. Your key is stored with your other MacroKeep data in Drive.
Where is my data?
In your Google account's Drive application data folder. MacroKeep only accesses that hidden app folder—not your other Drive files.
